Construction:
Palms:
The palm and its grip are the most important parts of the glove. The materials that make up the palm largely determine its gripping ability. Smooth latex has traditionally provided the best grip. Different manufacturers also provide various treatments to palms to increase tackiness.
Durability:
The better the glove, the quicker it will wear out. High-quality smooth latex will begin to flake relatively quickly - a natural process for a sensitive material. You can use your gloves until almost all of the material has worn off. The thicker the palm of the glove, the more durable it will be.
Pricing:
Generally, the better the grip of the glove, the more expensive it is. In the long run, serious goalkeepers will save money by having two pairs of gloves: a higher quality pair for match play and a lower quality pair for training. Also, you can get extra life out of your worn match play gloves by using them in training.
Sizing:
Glove sizing is based on the size of your hand. Most keepers prefer to wear gloves a little larger than they actually need (some will increase as much as an inch and a half too big). This gives the gloves a larger surface area to stop the ball. Glove sizes correspond roughly to your shoe size.
A more accurate sizing method is to measure all the way around the widest part of your palm, without including your thumb. Measure both hands and add 1 to the largest measurement. The total will be your glove size. (If the circumference of your largest hand is 7 inches, add one, and your glove size is 8). Gloves only come in wholesizes.
